Parent Sponsorship
If you want to bring your relatives to Canada, there are different sponsorship programs. If you want to bring your parents and grandparents to live with you in Canada, you can use a kinship sponsorship program.
Many permanent residents of Canada want to bring their parents and grandparents to live with them in Canada. Applicants must fill out an online form to express their interest in sponsorship. Through this program, the federal government of Canada offers residents the opportunity to help relocate their parents and grandparents. This program is offered only once a year; a record 30,000 applications will be accepted in 2021.
Application Procedure
There are two different ways to apply for parental sponsorship.
The applicant must be a sponsor.
Your parents and grandparents must apply for permanent residency.
The following are the steps for completing the kinship sponsorship application
1. Submit a sponsorship interest form.
The first step is to submit the online application. This is available for a limited time at the beginning of the year. As opposed to the former “first come, first served” principle, applications will be accepted on a random basis.
2. receive an invitation to submit this application.
IRCC asks all potential sponsors to submit a complete application in the same order in which they previously submitted their applications as potential sponsors.
Processing time
Under the parent sponsorship program, the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) takes a minimum of 20-24 months to process the application. The parents or grandparents also have to give their biometrics test after applying. The biometric test is included within the processing time.
